I can help explain the phone number difference you're seeing. Amazon uses a privacy protection system for customer contact information.
In the "Customer phone number FAQ" section at this help page, it explains that Amazon provides anonymized phone numbers with extensions specific to each order. When carriers need to contact customers during delivery, they need to enter both the five-digit extension and postal code to connect.
The only exceptions where you might see actual customer phone numbers are for:
- Value Added Services orders
- Orders shipped outside the United States
- Orders using the freight shipping template
Just keep in mind that these contact numbers (whether anonymized or actual) only work during the fulfillment period, as mentioned in the "Additional information" section at this help page.
