I am trying to print up labels (FBA) for a new product with many variations. The labels are not printing with the ASIN, but rather with a grouping of letters that begin with "X".
Is this something new, or is there a problem? I have older products that still print up their ASINS.

Those labels are called FNSKU. I sell for years and my product labels always were the FNSKU.
If you had to print till now the ASIN that was really exceptionally. In any way you have to print the labels from your "Manage Inventory" and those are the correct ones.
