Grocery & Gourmet Foods Sub Category

Friends, I hope you're all doing well!

I created my listing "Generic-Grocery & Gourmet Food | GTIN Exemption approved."

Then, I was notified that my listing is inactive because I needed approval to list this ASIN. When I tried to resolve the issue, Seller Central informed me that I needed approval to sell in the Grocery & Gourmet Foods subcategory.

Please note that I am BOTH the MANUFACTURER AND THE SELLER in this Amazon store. I do NOT purchase the product from another manufacturer or distributor to resell it here.

To get approval for the Sub Category, they say I need to provide at least 1 purchase invoice for products from a manufacturer or distributor. I’ve already tried reaching out to support three times, and they repeat like robots that I need to submit an invoice purchasing products from a manufacturer, completely ignoring that I am the MANUFACTURER/DISTRIBUTOR. Does anyone know if this requirement could be due to a specific error during the listing or store setup? Can someone please help me?

If you are the manufacturer, join brand registry. But why would you list it as generic?

If you are making a food product in any facility that is not certified, such as your own home, do not even think about selling it ANYWHERE

Hi @Seller_sxhS2TbF87K0o,

I agree with @Seller_4zBzdtgCyS9EI - listing as "generic" when you're the manufacturer seems counterintuitive. Brand Registry would be a better path for a manufacturer.

Next, I'd recommend reviewing the category requirements help page for Grocery & gourmet foods (https://sellercentral.amazon.com/help/hub/reference/G201511970). The Grocery & Gourmet Foods category has strict requirements due to food safety concerns. You must:

  • Be licensed/approved by relevant government agencies
  • Comply with federal and state laws
  • Ensure proper labeling (FDA requirements)
  • Meet specific packaging requirements

Also important to note: Since you are both the manufacturer and seller, you should be aware that according to the Invoice Requirements help page (https://sellercentral.amazon.com/help/hub/reference/GDQ9K277NYP6WNEW), under 'What won't be accepted?', Amazon does not accept:

  • Self-issued invoices or invoices where the supplier appears to be the same business entity as the buyer
  • Sales quotes, pro forma invoices, or any document sent in advance of a finalized invoice

So let's think from the end result backwards: Before re-applying for category approval, consider Brand Registry. And before that presumably comes the preparation of:

  • Your manufacturing license
  • FDA compliance documentation
  • Any other regulatory approvals you have
  • Product safety certifications
  • Facility certifications or permits

Best regards, Michael

Hello @Seller_sxhS2TbF87K0o,

Thanks for posting to the Forums. Amazon requires approval to sell in many categories, brands, and products and in some instances restrictions and policies change. While you may have been approved in the past, as the Amazon catalog grows, we continuously make new determinations on which products should be restricted, which is based on a number of factors. Amazon does this to ensure authenticity and customer satisfaction.

For this reason, you may be required to gain approval to sell certain products. You can see if there's an option to apply to sell through Seller Central, by going to Catalog>Add a Product. Next, find the ASIN you would like to sell and then apply to sell if there is an option.

You will find more details about this using the resources below:

Restricted products

Products that require approval

Invoice requirements for when you apply to sell

Regards,

- Manny
