Amazon withholding funds due to KYC - photo ID
I am having issues with Amazon - I am sure I am not alone and reaching out for help.
Amazon are refusing to give me the balance on my Amazon selling account.
After selling with Amazon for about 15 years, I received an email from Amazon stating that they needed to reverify my ID. They asked me intitially to upload a power of attourney - I did - accepted by Amazon but they then needed a letter from HMRC - which up uploaded and sent and was accepted and now they are asking for photo ID. This is where I have a problem. I do not have any photo ID and have no need to get any and refuse to due to cost. I appreciate Amazon can dictate policy on their selling account, I was not prepared to, or unable to provide ID so I told them to close my account. After going around in circles for about 1 month I am getting nowhere.
They have stated that in order to close my account or get the funds released I must provide Photo ID. No ifs or buts, I must provide photo id otherwise they will hold on to my funds.
What I find unprofessional and unfair is that the original email I received from Amazon stated that I had 60 days to sort the issue out otherwise they will restrict my selling account - this I understand and agree with. However on day 1 they froze my funds. Where was the 60 days grace period? How is this fair or right? Surely the individual should have the right to share personal information to whom they wish? If they don't comply then fine, close the account but how can they possibly have the right to hold onto someones money without having the discussion first so the individual can make an informed decision.
I wondered if anyone else has had this experience and whether they managed to get the funds due (in this case only £30 - but its the principle) and how they went about it without the need of photo id?

I think it is highly unlikely that you will get anywhere without an ID.
This isn't an amazon dictat as such - this is amazon complying with regulations around KYC, anti money laundering rules etc. They are obligated to do due diligence to ensure that the customers they are transacting with are who they say they are.
They froze the funds as it is that particular element they have to be careful with - as it is the monetary transaction.
As you do not wish to get an ID, you won't be able to pass KYC and amazon won't be willing to take the risk of sending the money I would imagine.

Have you not got a driving license or passport, ID card you can send and use?
