39.99 a Month worth it?
I have to ask, is it really worth paying $39.99 per month when I don’t even have a storefront, Just listings? I haven’t been on the platform very long and receive very few sales.
What would happen if I removed that storefront subscription? Would my account be penalized in any way?
At this point, it doesn’t make financial sense to continue paying that fee when I’m barely generating any income. I feel like I’m just losing money.
On top of that, the payments I do receive from sales are delayed for over two weeks, which puts me behind financially. It's getting harder to justify continuing the 39.99 a month membership.
What will happen if i downgrade?
I also don't recall setting the account up to be charged for that, I wanted a regular account.

"What will happen if i downgrade?"
You will pay extra for every order that you do get.
The MORE important issue is that you will be stuck with the shipping allowances that AMAZON gives you.
If you have not set any shipping templates to meet your needs that isn't a big issue, but I converted neatly all my ASINs to "free shipping" so all the suckers can see the offers.
I think you lose any chance of 'featured offer' as well but I have been on the Pro plan for about 15 years so I am not 100% certain about that.
The shipping templates would be my killer issue.

The pro plan is the regular account. Amazon intentionally make it difficult to actually open an individual account.
As explained above the biggest reason for the pro plan is use of shipping templates. As for buy-box -- being eligible may not mean much. But on the individual plan you are not eligible (unless FBA)
Other shipping issues relate to lack of control regarding Alaska/Hawaii, and no tinkering with transit times for different regions.
Reports are another difference -- very little access to reports on the individual plan (just tax stuff)
There are some categories that require pro plan.

It used to be an extra $1.00 "finders" fee, per order, on an individual plan ..... that's why Neverlast said "You will pay extra"
So if you sold 40 items a month you broke even w/ the Pro Plan
We sold, typically, between 50-60 orders a month so we made a little extra w/ the Pro Plan, but that seems to be ending; it is SO slow now and we are about to have our 3rd month in a row under 40 sales.
I'm considering going back to individual also.
I really like the "business reports" that come w/ the Pro, but don't need the "mysterious" Buy Box to sell obscure books and I never mess much w/ the confusing shipping templates. (I'm out West and get a lot of orders from back East consequently)

I always consider this monthly charge as a kind of "protection fee", since we are doing business on their turf.

My experience has been that if I am not on the $39.99 plan, my sales drop off to zero. When on the plan, my sales increase. It's anecdotal so your mileage may vary.

I think the answers you got from others so far are more informed than me, so I just wanted to add one quick additional point.
Amazon has been described as Gigantic Insane Robot that is simply too large to be reasoned with. You don't want it to ever actually notice you for anything, since it's never "gentle".
That said, the messaging falls under poker terms usually. When Amazon tells you one thing, you need to figure out if they mean it, or if they are just trying to get you to "choose" to give them more of your money rather than less. That they wanted you to get the pro plan, probably means the pro plan isn't right for you, and they want you to postpone downgrading as long as possible, so downgrade asap and see if it works better.
And finally, Amazon has all the power and the leverage, and as most sellers have to say who have been here a long time, they will use that power and leverage against us whenever they want. So any "terms" that you currently think are fair for what they charge? Those terms will change and they will change for the worse for you.
There's nothing that can be done about that. Sellers are a resource that are somewhere below employees of the company as far as rank goes. They do not care that they have squeezed us out.

Hello @Seller_SV4zvdE5dkeEj- and thank you for creating this discussion!
I also appreciate the thoughts shared by the community so far, topics like shipping plans, Featured Offer Eligibility, and category specific requirements are important considerations. You can look to this comparison between the two plans to help make this calculation for your business, along with this Seller University video on the topic, and you may find the details on Downgrade or upgrade and tax calculation service to be relevant as well.
If you do determine a downgrade to be in order, please see the instructions on this page to execute the change!
I hope this helps, but let me know if you have any other questions.
Best,
Danny

It's worth it if you sell 40 units a month or more.
