Help me out understand this return shipping stuff (FBM)

As a new seller, I've been trying really hard to earn my first positive feedback, taking my time to package the items and shipping them the same day (still have none). This customer bought this item just last week and has decided to return it because it's "no longer needed" I'm offering free shipping for all my items and have set offer free returns for none of my items. I paid $6.62 for the shipping through Amazon's buy shipping. When I go to my transaction view, I'm seeing another -$7.06 for return billing. Does that mean I'm out $13.68? Will Amazon refund any the 2 shipping charges? or should I go back to charging for shipping? When I click the refund order, it only lets me refund the full amount. I don't see any option to keep the shipping fee. Only other option is to offer a partial refund if the item is damaged or not the same as I shipped it. I take 4 pictures of every item that I sell.

As an FBM seller, Amazon makes you follow the RFS rules. That means, Amazon will automatically refund the buyer the total cost paid plus the return shipping cost from your account.

Now with that said. FBM sellers have different rules found in Amazon policies about returns. To apply these rules a Safe-T Claim has to be filed.

1. For No longer wanted or needed returns, sellers may claim reimbursement for Outward Shipping the buyer actually paid and Return shipping costs.

If the product was sent new and returned opened or used, another 50% restocking fee may also be claimed.

If a different product is returned, claim a 100% reimbursement of the product cost.

2. If the return is seller faulted, (damaged, not working, etc.) Sellers take the full hit on original costs plus the return costs.

3. Now comes the returns from what Amazon calls "BAD SCTORS", or what others call scammers. These are the buyers who buy new, use the product, and return it as defective, damages, or even a different item. These buyer returns are the vast majority on the Amazon site.

If you have very good documentation of the product sent and good documentation of the product returned, and a well written Safe-t Claim, it is possible to get a better reimbursement up to a full reimbursement.

As Amazon has extended the return window for 3 months, starting Nov 1, get ready for a lot of Safe-T claims to be filed.
