I'm trying to sell an old CD, but I'm told I need "approval"

I'm trying to sell a Beethoven CD that's: a) thirty years old, b) of which I don't have multiple copies, and c) is from a manufacturer (EMI) that is now out of business. I mention those three things because I see them on the page where I need to request approval.

Look at the last sentence of the attached screenshot: "You need approval to list in this brand." What "brand"? There is no brand.

And why do I need approval to sell a CD that other sellers are already selling? Seeing that I've been selling stuff on Amazon since 1999, why can't I join them?

Greetings @Seller_fUsYar15PuCjT,

As part of our ongoing efforts to provide a great shopping experience, we are implementing selling qualifications for some products in the Music and DVD categories that might have a higher risk of authenticity issues. Some products in the Music and DVD categories are restricted, while others require an application to sell.

The fact that the "Apply to sell" button exists is an indication that Amazon considers your account qualified to list in the Music category - so that's a positive.

That being said, you will need to go through the application process to list this item. The Request Approval link will include the application requirements and instructions on how to provide the requested information.

General application requirements include the following:

  • Your primary source(s) of inventory
  • An estimate of the quantity of units you plan to sell
  • A minimum of 1 invoice from your largest inventory source that is representative of the types of products you plan to sell

Your application will be evaluated based on the information you provide. Submitted invoices will be verified. Please note that we do not accept pro-forma invoices (sent in advance of the purchase or delivery of goods).

If you continue to run into further blockers on this, I recommend reaching out to Seller Support (if you haven't already done so).
